Sorrento is a classical Italian town with an exquisite old town begging for your to explore. The best place to stay for easy access to its delights is the historic centre, a safe, pedestrianised area with plenty of shops and restaurants. If it’s nightlife you’re up for, you’ll want to be near Corso Italia, north and centre of town, but if you crave peace, quiet and tranquillity then you’re going to love the holiday homes in the hills just behind the town – and the views of the Bay of Naples which are simply gorgeous!

Within the main town of Sorrento you will find the most beautiful flats, with terraces overlooking the sea and hills. You’ll find rentals to suit single travellers, couples and families, all within walking distance of the beach. But if you would like more privacy or space, the houses in Sorrento are just lovely. Located on the western coast of Italy, Sorrento is one of the prettiest in Italy. Sorrento’s charming waterfront is a focal point for visitors. The attractive marina, to Sorrento’s west, features exceptional restaurants which offer a wide range of Italian cuisine as well as a fantastic selection of wines. On the right-hand side of the marina is where you’ll find the ferry to Naples. The views from the restaurants at the marina are wonderful. Look out for the top-end yachts moored here!

There can be no argument that Sorrento is one of the most picturesque towns in all of Italy, and as such it’s a perfect place for photographers be they novice or professional. Sorrento Cathedral Bell Tower, in the western part of town, is a classic Italian photograph – especially with that extraordinarily blue sky behind it. The old town is just crying out to be captured on film with its vibrant colours and pretty streets, markets, cafes and shops. But of course, the classic photograph from Sorrento is the famous shot of Vesuvius – get it from the Chiesa di San Francesco.

There’s just something really special about Sorrento’s beach clubs, and what’s more – there is no shortage of them! By the marina you’ll find four main beach clubs, each with their own special offerings. Marameo Beach offers you a private jacuzzi, floating sun beds and specialises in Italian seafood. Peter’s Beach provides an absolutely gorgeous view, and as the sun sets you can enjoy the sounds of jazz with a drink and quite exceptional food. Leonelli’s Beach Club is the best destination for families. It has a very large beach, and lots of safe space. Finally, Bagni Salvatore, without question the prettiest of them all (and that’s a tall order as they’re all delightful) has walls that are a Roman villa and divine Mediterranean dining offerings.

There is simply no prettier place to enjoy a day’s shopping than Sorrento’s old town. Discover the magnificence of its boutiques, artisan giftware shops and markets.

Sorrento’s world-famous Limoncello liqueur is not to be missed. In the town centre, Tesori di Sorrento is a small but perfectly formed little shop, home to the small family business which uses its own home-grown, hand-peeled lemons to make a variety of different Limoncello types. Tastings are available!

A beauty spot with its own natural swimming pool, Queen Johanna Baths are within the grounds of a roman villa. Enjoy a fabulous swim followed by a glass of wine and meal at the La Solara restaurant.

Villa Comunale is a public garden which is actually at the top of the cliff by Sorrento, with views that have to be seen to be believed. The gardens have plenty of seats to rest and just soak in the beauty, whether you want to look over the bay or at the beautiful flowers.

The Sorrento Cathedral’s biggest surprise is its extraordinary ceiling, but don’t miss the delights of the many other churches in the town. Marvellous examples are Chiesa di San Prisco e Agnello which hosts extravagant weddings, and the lavish Duomo dei San Filippo e Giacomo. A grand attraction to what is bound to be a grand trip!
