Built in 1395 during the Joseon dynasty, Gyeongbokgung Palace is the largest of Seoul's five grand palaces. The grounds house the National Palace Museum of Korea and the National Folk Museum where antiques and works of art, as well as everyday objects such as clothing, are on display. A visit to this historic site, where kings were crowned, allows you to experience a tour along a traditional path of stone walls and extensive grounds that are home to beautiful ornamental gardens and ponds. The palace is located in the Jongno district, the heart of old Seoul, and is a must-see if you wish to get a glimpse of the capital's past.

Rich in biodiversity, Bukhansan National Park, the only national park in the Seoul metropolitan area, is the perfect place to escape from the city. With crystal clear streams, mountains, valleys and more than 1,300 species of plants and animals, it's the perfect spot for a stroll if you love being surrounded by nature. Bukhansan has trails suitable for all levels, so you can enjoy gentle strolls while admiring the scenery and passing traditional buildings. Namsan Park, on the other hand, is also known for its beautiful trails and for being the largest park in Seoul. The park has various species of plants, trees, animals and is home to the city's longest Cherry Blossom Trail which takes place during the colourful spring.

The Myeongdong district, the city's main shopping centre and mecca for Korean beauty products, offers a plethora of alley shops ranging from low- to high-end brands. Myeongdong is one of the most expensive districts. However, you can still get great bargains and an incredible range of products. On the other hand, if you like cheap stuff the Hongdae district has reasonable prices and favourite brands such as Forever 21 and H&M, as well as the Dongdaemun district where you'll find wholesale goods in over 25 shopping malls.

Built more than 600 years ago, a visit to Bukchon Hanok Village is one of the things you should not miss on your tour of Seoul. The village hosts the largest collection of hanoks in Seoul and is one of the few places in the world that offers a glimpse of these traditional Korean houses (hanok). Immerse yourself in the magical ancient atmosphere, explore the more than 100 traditional clay and stone houses and enjoy a cup of tea, many of the houses now function as tea houses and even guest houses.

The National Museum of Korea is another must-see attraction in Seoul. Discover the history of Korea and admire Korean artworks and objects from thousands of years ago. You can see some 15,000 objects including ancient artefacts, sculptures, paintings and much more that tell the story of Korea. However, the museum also features an Immersive Digital Gallery where you can dive into the cultural heritage through huge panoramic screens full of vibrant colours. This is one of the largest museums in Asia and an excellent way to experience the culture of Seoul.

Despite its steel skyscrapers, Seoul has a variety of centuries-old Buddhist temples that will captivate you! Discover the golden temple of Suguksa, the only golden temple in Seoul, and be dazzled by the lotus lanterns that light up at night; visit the Bongeunsa temple famous for the success of PSY and see the more than 3,000 Buddhist scriptures; And have tea with a monk at the Jogyesa temple. Rising 500 metres above the ground, the Lotte World Tower is one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world and one of the top ten tallest buildings in the world. We recommend that you don't miss the spectacular view from the top which offers a 360-degree panorama of Seoul; and take your courage and visit the 118th floor where you will find the Sky Deck, the highest glass floor in the world. The floor changes from opaque to transparent in an unexpected way!

During the first two weeks of November, Seoul is filled with festive lights during the Lantern Festival. With nightly processions of song and dance, this is one of the capital's most iconic festivals. See the huge paper lanterns, be dazzled by hundreds of colours, and enjoy the variety of light sculptures along the Cheonggyecheon stream. The procession goes from Cheonggye Square to Supyogyo Bridge and the theme of the festival is different every year, so you can always experience something different.
